TAG Passes Grade "A" In Shock TestTechnology Advancement Group, Inc. (TAG) has passed MIL-S-901D Grade A high impact shock qualification with their SV-2000-A2 servers in support of the Integrated Shipboard Network System (ISNS).
By: Jessica Lindberg The ISNS program, which is managed by SPAWAR’s PMW-160, took place July14 -15 at the Dynamic Testing Institute (DTI) Laboratories facility in Rustburg, Virginia. While TAG’s servers were only required to meet Grade B, they passed all test series to earn an impressive Grade A qualification. To pass Grade A the servers must continue to perform their intended functions following the test series, allowing momentary malfunctions as long as they are automatically self-correcting. These tests ensure that all mission-critical components on board the Navy vessel operate reliably throughout all environmental conditions. A total of five TAG ISNS severs were integrated into a single rack, mounted on coil shock isolators. The entire unit was deck mounted on a floating shock platform in a large pond to emulate at sea ship conditions with a deck frequency of 14 Hz. Each explosion utilized 60 pound HBX charges to provide up to 22G’s of shock impact to the rack face. The first three shots were at different standoff distances (30’, 25’ and 20’) to simulate varying degrees of shock severity. For Shot No. 4, the test items were rotated 90 degrees in order to meet requirements for unlimited orientation. “The U.S. Navy continues to rely on TAG’s Engineering to supply battle-ready, mission-critical electronics,” Technology Advancement Group, Inc.
