Certification Exam Announced: A Milestone for Professional Organizers & Affiliated Industries

November 1 through 30, 2008 is the next opportunity to sit for the Certified Professional Organizer® examination. Anyone meeting the requirements may take the computer based exam.

The Board of Certification for Professional Organizers® (BCPO®) announces the next opportunity to sit for the 2-hour Certified Professional Organizer® (CPO®) examination can be scheduled any time November 1 through 30, 2008. Anyone in any profession who meets the minimum requirements may take the exam, which is computer based and widely available throughout the United States, Canada and other countries. Other professions, including home and real estate stagers, senior move managers, records managers and those who work in other related fields may also qualify to sit for the exam.

   In any industry, professional certification is valuable. “BCPO® recognizes professionals who have met specific minimum standards, and proven through examination and client interaction that they possess the body of knowledge and experience required for certification,” says BCPO® president Audrey Lavine, CPO®.

Requirements to Sit for the CPO® Exam

•   A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
•   Adherence to the Code of Ethics for Certified Professional Organizers.
•   Documentation of a total of 1,500 hours of paid work experience in the last three (3) years. Paid work experience may include on-site organizing, coaching, consulting, training, virtual organizing, workshops and speaking engagements, or any form of paid work experience which, through client interaction, transfers or teaches organizing skills.

The BCPO® is the self-governing, independent certifying body formed in 2007 to recognize and raise industry standards, practices and ethics through independent certification.
