Guided Hikes Announced – Hike the Highlands

Hike the Highlands is a 10 day hiking festival in the month of September featuring 24 guided hikes from September 12-21, 2008. There are six new hikes in 2008 as well a number of popular hikes are back from past festivals.
 
June 15, 2008 - PRLog -- "The 5th Annual Hike the Highlands Festival is pleased to announced that this year’s hiking festival will featured 24 guided hikes, "says Dupie Milne-Ashton, Co-Chair of Guides Committee, “ an increase of seven hikes from last year, “. The hiking festival will take place from September 12-21.

The festival will feature six new hikes in 2008, Money Point,  Bog, Benjies Lake,  NHN Trail, Le Buttereau, and Plaster Provincial Park Trail. As well the festival has brought back some hikes from past festivals including  Warren Lake,  Branch Pond,  Cape Smokey and  the Clyburn Valley.

“The goal is to provide choices for hikers each day, “ says Bethsheila Kent, Co-Chair, Guides Committee, “ as well a short or long hike”.  Hikes range from 1.7 kms – Freshwater Lake to 18 kms – North River Big Falls, the highest water falls in Nova Scotia, 104 feet high.  The full schedule of guided hikes is available on the Hike the Highlands Festival website -http://www.hikethehighlandsfestival.com/Schedule.html .

Hike the Highlands Festival Guides and Sweeps are trained each year and participated in first aid training.  “There is at least one guide and sweep for each twenty hikers and usually more at our guided hikes during the festival”,  says Dupie Milne-Ashton, Co-Chair of Guides Committee and member of the board of directors for  Hike the Highlands Festival.

“Our Guides & Sweeps are biggest asset of our team and bring experience, knowledge and safety to each hike says Tom C. Wilson, Chair, Hike the Highlands Festival.  Wilson states  the ultimate goal is to provide hikers with an enjoyable and unique experience to our guided hikes.
