"Texas T" from old IT - PC collector Thriftopia.com Ltd. seeks partner

A new process to extract fossil fuels from Printed Circuit Boards has been developed and social enterprise Thriftopia.com wants to partner with a natural resource or energy company to collect as much e-scrap as possible.

April 23, 2008 - PRLog -- Using a process called "catalytic cracking" the Romanian Academy's Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry has developed a process to extract fossil fuels from e-waste as published on http://www.separationsnow.com.

Patrick Hebert, president of Thriftopia.com Ltd., a small Canadian company that collects waste electronics for reuse and recycling sees this as a golden opportunity that is underscoring the necessity to extend his company's reach and capability to collect obsolete computers, cell phones, and other gadgets.

"The fact that there is a body of researchers working on converting plastics and printed circuit boards to fuel is going to make the collection of WEEE even more important," said Hebert.

When asked why he would want to partner with larger business and what would benefit them Hebert explained "Mining and oil recovery have some similarities to our harvesting operation - the more mines or wells, the more resources recovered.  Our business is similar, except we're mining trash."

Beyond the extraction of fuel, electronic discards are also a source of precious and semi-precious metals such as gold, copper, nickel and other metals.
