| New Website Celebrates Calvin and HobbesCartoon fanatic celebrates cartoons with a website devoted to Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes cartoons.
Although Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbs cartoons only ran in newspapers from 1985 to 1995, their popularity has not waned. The cartoons books are still being sold worldwide and videos and animations can be found all over the Internet. Watterson’s cartoons influenced readers and cartoonist alike. According to Kangas, Watterson also made an impact on how newspapers published cartoons. For instance, due to his opposition of the way Sunday cartoons were laid out, newspapers allowed him to draw his Sunday cartoons the way he wanted. Calvin and Hobbes had overlapping panels and many had panels containing their own panels. There were even some where the action was diagonal instead of horizontal. “People still love Calvin and Hobbes. The cartoon series is imaginative, irreverent, and thought provoking. Calvin sees and does things we wished we would have had the courage to say or do,” states Kangas in her site’s introduction. The website includes Calvin and Hobbes videos, animations and cartoons. Kangas also has a contest to see who can write the best caption for a Calvin and Hobbes drawing, the prize being Calvin and Hobbes book(s), chosen by the winner. There are also links to more information on Bill Watterson, Calvin and Hobbes books and other Calvin goodies. Whether Calvin is seeing monsters under the bed, having balloon fights, sculpting monsters in snow, or turning into a super hero to save the world, Hobbes is always there to help keep him grounded. Along the way, great life lessons are learned by all, although as Calvin would say when life lessons are all that happened that day, "What a boring day." Kangas has 2 cartoon sites online: http://www.squidoo.com/ "Choosing the funniest Calvin and Hobbes single cartoon,” says Kangas, “is impossible, but I’m sure everyone will laugh -- a lot -- trying.” # # # About Sculptures by Frankie: Frankie Kangas is an award winning sculptor and sells her art on her website.
