Nov. 15, 2007 - PRLog -- ULI Atlanta, http://atlanta.uli.org, a district council of the Urban Land Institute, sponsored a panel discussion of ‘The Huff Road Corridor’ at The Defoor Centre on Wednesday, Nov. 7. The panelists included Steve Brock, founder and CEO of Brock Built City Neighborhoods http://www.brockbuilt.com, Michael Phillips, principal of TuckerMott, Inc. and Bob Silverman, president of Winter Properties. The three gentlemen answered an array of questions presented by the Moderator for the evening – John Schaffner, editor of the Buckhead Reporter.

The focus of the discussion was the development taking place around The Huff Road Corridor, which was once the heart of Atlanta’s thriving Blandtown Neighborhood located in Atlanta’s Upper Westside. In the early 1900s, Blandtown was a flourishing area consisting of an array of manufacturing and industrial businesses. For much of the past decade, loose patchworks of home décor entrepreneurs and innovative restaurants have characterized this corridor, and people like Brock, Phillips and Silverman are realizing the potential of this area to be the next vibrant ‘intown’ community in Atlanta.

“There has been a phenomenal amount of development and revitalization throughout Atlanta, and I feel this new emergence of The Huff Road Corridor is going to be an incredibly thrilling thing to watch over the next several years,” said ULI Atlanta Executive Director Jeff DuFresne. “The panelists were asked an array of questions regarding their opinions of The Huff Road Corridor, including why they wanted to get involved in this area, what they felt the future of the area would look like and what they felt the advantages of building in the area would be. It was a true learning experience for all those in attendance.”

Due to the successful redevelopment of neighboring Midtown, Midtown West and Atlantic Station, as well as the increasing trend towards ‘intown’ living, Huff Road has generated significant interest by development and planning groups. Additionally, with its close proximity to major employment centers and the future Beltline, The Huff Road Corridor is set to explode with thousands of new residential units as well as numerous mixed-use commercial and retail developments that will breathe new life into this previously vibrant community. The panelists specifically described a collaborative project currently in development, West Town, a new mixed-use development that will be comprised of multiple residential, recreation and shopping and dining areas.

As a district council of the Urban Land Institute, ULI Atlanta advances responsible land use policy and real estate development practice throughout greater Atlanta. The nonprofit group is supported by its members.  They examine land use issues, impartially report their findings and convene forums to find solutions to complex land use problems.
