Charles River builds preclinical lab in Quebec

Charles River Laboratories International (Wilmington, Massachusetts) is to build a new 300,000 sq ft preclinical facility in the recently constructed Sherbrooke Biomedical Park in Quebec, Canada.

Aug. 31, 2007 - PRLog -- Charles River Laboratories International (Wilmington, Massachusetts) is to build a new 300,000 sq ft preclinical facility in the recently constructed Sherbrooke Biomedical Park in Quebec, Canada.  The project is being supported by the Quebec government. The first phase will involve construction of a 75,000 sq ft facility, which is expected to be dedicated to one or two clients, by the first quarter of 2009.  Timing of construction of the remaining phases will depend on market demand.  When complete, the facility is expected to employ 1,000 people, who will work with the 1,600 staff currently located at the company's Montreal site. Quebec is a popular location for contract research, with about 4,300 employees in some 20 companies, according to Invest Quebec.  Other CROs in the province include Cato Research Canada, Covance, Icon, MDS Pharma Services, Quintiles Canada and Anapharm.
