March 17, 2007 - PRLog -- NEW YORK (Mar. 16, 2007)— Diane Gedymin, vice president and editorial director for leading print-on-demand supported self-publishing company iUniverse, will be a featured guest at the Second Annual Self-Publishing Symposium presented by Aspicomm Media in New York City.

The event will take place on Saturday, March 25, 2007 at the historic Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at 515 Malcolm X Blvd in Harlem. Gedymin will participate in the Hot Topics Discussion Panel at 11:30 a.m. The panel will address major issues affecting self-publishers and independent presses in a candid and open forum.

“African-American writers have been at the forefront of the self-publishing movement,” Gedymin states.  “It’s exciting to participate in a day of activities geared toward helping authors reach their goals, and to be a part of such an entrepreneurial community of authors, publishers, and booksellers who so passionately care about books.”

The Self-Publishing Symposium was created to provide self-published authors and small/independent publishers with an opportunity to develop successful strategies for maintaining, building and growing their businesses. The symposium’s primary goal is to teach publishers the elements of success by providing networking opportunities where contacts can be established and winning tactics can be exchanged.

With over 30 years of experience in traditional publishing, Gedymin has worked in nearly every area of the business, including as a literary agent affiliated with Carlisle & Company, as senior vice president and publisher of HarperSanFrancisco and vice president and senior editor at the Putnam/Berkeley Group. She is the co-author of Get Published! Professionally, Affordably, Fast. Gedymin lives in Brooklyn.
