Here’s a excerpt for you to sink your teeth into:
They walked into the cottage and out onto the deck to watch the sun sink out of sight. He held her hand as the sky changed from light orange, to dark purple, to night blue. It was a beautiful sight to behold. The romantic undertones were very effective. He pulled her closer and kissed her passionately. She could feel her heart expanding with feeling. How could she leave him?
He pulled back and looked into her eyes. “I want to tell you something, but hear me out before you respond. Ok?” He watched her expression.
“This sounds serious. Ok, I’ll listen before I respond.” She smiled and leaned in to hear what he had to say.
“Lily, I love you. I know it’s a little quick, but I know without a shadow of a doubt that you were sent here for us to be together.” He took a breath before he continued with the hard part. “Please don’t go back to Rafe. Just stay with me. If you go back something could happen and maybe you couldn’t come back. I couldn’t stand the thought of never seeing you again.” He reached out and took both of her hands. When he went down on one knee she gasped. “Lily will you marry me? Will you forget about decisions and men that are long ago dead?”
She stared at him in awe. This was the moment most women waited on for years. It was the sweetest most unexpected proposal. But she couldn’t speak a word. Her heart was suddenly torn into two pieces. One piece belonged to him and the other belonged to Rafe. How could she leave Rafe without at least telling him why?
Anthony suddenly stood up and walked over to the railing. He raked his hand through his dark hair. When he turned his eyes were full of emotion. “All I want to know is, are you at least thinking about the proposal? Do I even stand a chance?” He squatted down in front of her again and grabbed her hands, kissing each one with tender kisses.
She reached up and stroked his face. “Anthony I am giving the proposal a lot of thought. I just can’t answer you right now. I have so much to think about.” She saw the sadness sweep into his eyes. “Don’t look like that. I love you too, but I need to make sure that my whole heart can be yours and yours only. Can you understand that?”
He bowed his head and shook it from side to side. “I don’t understand how a man that’s been dead for over one hundred years can just take over your heart. How can you even think about going back to him? If you love me, how can you love him too?”
A tear slipped from her eye as she stared at his bowed head. “I can’t answer that. I really don’t know myself. All I know is that I love two men very much and it’s tearing me apart.” She wiped the tear away and turned her face toward the ocean breeze.
