Aug. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- BOISE- Smoke Alarm Media will launch the latest in its series of best-selling cookbooks with the unveiling of “Signature Tastes of Boise” in conjunction with Alive at Five on Wednesday, August 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. The event, which will be held at the Sports Zone in the Grove Hotel is open to the public and author/creator of the series, Steven W. Siler, will be on hand to sign copies of the cookbook.

“We all remember a great meal, said Siler.  “And as much as a city can influence a restaurant, so can also the restaurant define the city. . Almost always ... a few unique or signature dishes become representative not just of the restaurant, but the city itself. We have tried to capture this unique phenomenon in our cookbooks.”

Siler enlisted the help of local Bosiean, Corbin Bedard to unearth the culinary traditions and flavors of the City of Trees.

“It has been a fascinating journey to collect these recipes from some of the city’s most talented chefs,” said Bedard. “I had the opportunity to revisit some of my fondest dining memories and find new and interesting places that I hope to incorporate into my future dining experiences.”

With the help of the Boise Chapter of the American Culinary Foundation and Chef Lou Aaron, Siler and Bedard were able to compile recipes that represent every type of dining experience available in the area, from haute cuisine to diner and cafe food.

“The chefs were so happy to open up their recipe books to us and for the people of Boise. It has been a pleasure and an honor to work so closely with some of the greatest culinary minds in Boise,” said Siler.

“Signature Tastes of Boise” will also be available at Culinary Walkabout on Thursday, August 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Boise Centre. This ticketed charity event is the annual fundraiser for Meals on Wheels A wonderfully talented group of local chefs will unite to help raise money for Meals on Wheels by dishing up their most creative cuisine—and trying to outdo each other in the process. Tickets are $50 ($60 at the door).
“I wanted the books to be about the areas, not about the money. I am donating my royalties from the books back to local charities,” said Siler. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of “Signature Tastes of Boise” goes to support Meals on Wheels as well as the Signature Tastes Foundation, created to support aspiring culinary talent.
Siler, has spent over 20 years in the restaurant industry from back of house to front, to chef.  In addition, he has served as an editor and contributing writer for several food publications.  He completed his first book, “Signature Tastes of Bellingham”, as a “Thank You” to the city where he served as a firefighter and medic.  That book became a regional best-seller, with over a quarter of sales coming from outside of the Northwest.

The book is also available for purchase at Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com and from restaurants featured in the book.
