Dec. 24, 2008 - PRLog -- (North Kansas City, MO) --Global Re-Source Funding announces today the 1 Year Anniversary of the addition of iPods to its line of items accepted by its recycling/fundraising program.  The music player joins used cell phones, ink/toner cartridges and laptops as items collected by the nationwide program—helping the program keep nearly 300,000 of these toxic items out of landfills just last year.

The program works with thousands of schools, churches, retailers, organizations and non-profits throughout the US to provide them with a convenient and easy way to raise money while focusing on the “green” effects of recycling.  Global Re-Source Funding’s purchasers are always looking for new items that fit into the program, and iPods were a natural add-on.  Over 150 million had been sold through March, 2008, and they only seem to be gaining in popularity.  Much like cell phones, iPods are being upgraded with the introduction of new technology in the new models.  They are also known to have unfixable issues, sometimes as early as a year after purchasing.

“We have teamed up with a locally based company that takes the used iPods and uses them to fix other non-working iPods that owners don’t want to part with, or are not ready to replace,” commented Erin Bonomo, Marketing Director of Global Re-Source Funding.  As with all of the items we accept, we’re more focused on the re-use approach rather than simply recycling.”

A complete list of items, including iPods, that are included in the Global Re-Source Funding recycling/fundraising program can be found at www.GlobalRe-SourceFunding.com.  Information about how your organization can become involved can also be found on the site.

About Global Re-Source Funding
Since 1995, OPRA has been a worldwide industry leader in creating new opportunities to keep products out of landfills and back in the hands of consumers. Global Re-Source Funding, formerly Rethink Ink, was formed two years later as a subsidiary to head OPRA’s end-user collections.  The program pays participating organizations for used ink/toner cartridges, cell phones, iPods and laptops and offers several different promotions throughout the year in addition.  These items are then diverted from the landfills and sent to certified remanufacturing companies to be refurbished, lowering the depletion of resources required to manufacture new items.
