Life-Wire News Service is a New Voice For People with Disabilities

Lifestyles for the Disabled of Staten Island offers a new platform where people with disabilities can be heard. Life-Wire News Service, at LifeWire.news, provides content for use by media or the public in text, photo or video formats.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Sept. 14, 2015 - PRLog -- There’s a new perspective at Life-Wire News Service at LifeWire.news. The first-of-its-kind service launched officially today, distributing news created by people with intellectual disabilities. The program operates out of Lifestyles for the Disabled’s Media Center in the Willowbrook section of Staten Island.

Participants in the service (crew members) produce their own content with the aid of Lifestyles staff.  The program connects crew members to the community in new ways and provides exposure to the public that will help to demystify people with intellectual disabilities. By utilizing Lifestyles’ media technology, crew members can express themselves at the top of their ability levels.

“By placing our faith in individuals’ abilities instead of their disabilities, our crew members surpass expectations,” according to Richard Salinardi, Lifestyles’ Executive Director.  “We demonstrate by example that people can achieve anything when they set their goals high.”

Life-Wire News Service has been preparing content for its beta website since March of this year, leading up the point where the site is now fully-realized.  The wire has posted features about the Staten Island Yankees, local musicians Karlus Trapp and Edwin “Pupa” Santiago, South Street's Little Water Radio, Seaview Hospital with Borough Historian Thomas Matteo, autism awareness, disability issues, seasonal photography, and more.

For twenty years, Lifestyles for the Disabled has provided an environment where people with intellectual disabilities find purpose and inspiration to create, work and thrive.  In the Media Center, participants explore information technology and produce original content in their areas of expertise and interest utilizing video and radio formats.  Utilizing Lifestyles’ media assets, Life-Wire News Service features stories that explore entertainment, sports, human rights, and more.

You can view, listen to and share Life-Wire News Services’ features online at LifeWire.News on the latest “.news” web domain.
