Dozens of Opportunities to Celebrate

Businesses, Farmers and Organizations Celebrate Eating Local in September

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Aug. 12, 2013 - PRLog -- Sustainable Connections Food & Farming Program announces the return of a month long celebration in September highlighting local foods, farms, and fishers. With the help of local businesses, farms and restaurants, Whatcom County will have the opportunity to celebrate “Eat Local Month” with cooking classes, special dinners, food-focused movies, foraging trips, farm tours and more.

“The month long celebration gives people a chance to show their support for our local farmers, fishers and foragers who provide food for us,” said Sara Southerland, Food & Farming Coordinator for Sustainable Connections. “It gives businesses a chance to highlight how they support our local economy, too.”

Sustainable Connections’ 6th annual Whatcom County Farm Tour and the Whatcom Harvest Dinner are just two ways to celebrate. Participating restaurants, farms and businesses will also be hosting over 20 edible events and offering local dishes in celebration of Eat Local Month. Back by popular demand: an Eat Local Month Passport to Prizes. Earn passport stamps by eating the Eat Local Month dishes (comprised of 50% or more locally sourced ingredients) at participating restaurants, buying $10 of local produce at participating grocery stores and markets, and attending Eat Local Month events like the Farm Tour and Harvest Dinner.
