Partners with the STEM Sister Summit of Washington, D.C.The Tripod Foundation Inc. is pleased to announce its partnership with the STEM Sister Summit of Washington, D.C. this Friday and Saturday, April 5-6, 2013 at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center.
“What I like most is that the STEM Sister Summit is a cohort model that will follow these 100 girls throughout middle and high school and well into college with the necessary support they need to help prevent them from slipping through the cracks,” says the Tripod Foundation’s Programs Committee Co-Chair Maranda Ward. “I am excited about the opportunity to have the Foundation partner in both summit and post-summit STEM resource development and mentorship for these students. I cannot think of a better way to translate our mission of character development than through an overnight retreat of D.C. area middle and high school female students to explore the STEM possibilities at their fingertips.” The Foundation is committed to providing a post-summit STEM Information Support Network to those students who sign up for the program. This information network will include opportunities for mentoring sessions with professional women who already work in STEM, as well as a distribution of STEM-related content on a monthly basis by email. Floyd Mitchell, Chairman of the Tripod Foundation, shares Maranda’s enthusiasm for the Summit. “We are excited about our partnership with the STEM Sister Summit to help engage students around careers in STEM. The Tripod Foundation is committed to supporting scholars on both their journey to college and in career preparation.” The STEM Sister Summit will be held at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center on April 5-6, 2013. One hundred middle and high school girls in Washington, D.C. have signed up to participate in the two-day retreat. More information on the Summit can be found at www.stemsistersummit.org.
