The awards were established to honour the unsung heroes of the British television, film and media production industries across the UK. This year a shortlist of 6 freelancers were shortlisted from among dozens of nominations by a panel of expert judges.
The Outstanding Freelancer of the Year prize, which focuses on key achievements and outstanding contributions throughout the year, was awarded to Ram Tripathi. A typical quote from a colleague that nominated him included: “He is marvellous! Worked on Baselight and colouring on web series he completely changed it around and made it look amazing, so much care and attention. Complete dedication and beyond. He is AMAZING and even worked overnight! Helped with sounds and things that weren’t asked for.”
Joe Mahoney, MD of ProductionBase said: “Ram has clearly made an impression on the people around him over the last 12 months – he is willing to make himself totally invaluable by not only being incredibly efficient at his job but by being on hand whenever and wherever needed”.
The other freelancers shortlisted for the award were Steven Ballantyne (Line Producer/Location Manager/Fixer)
Joe Mahoney added: “Over 300 freelancers had been entered from across the UK and it was near impossible to pick a winner from a very talented list of production professionals. This award is about championing the talent that maybe wouldn’t get a look in at other industry awards, so we are delighted to have recognised the achievements of an exceptional bunch of people."
