The awards, established to honour the unsung heroes of the British television, film and media production industries across the UK, will be held tonight at The Hospital Club in London’s Covent Garden. Hosting the event will be journalist/presenter Matt Allwright (BBC Rogue Traders and The One Show).
Nine freelancers were shortlisted by a panel of judges including Sarah Farrell (Director of Comedy Content, Comedy Central), Paul Crompton (Executive Producer, Barge Pole Productions)
Phil Lewis will be awarded Runner Of The Year, which recognises the achievements, dedication and hard work of freelancers working within this often tough and gruelling entry position. Judge Paul Crompton, Executive Producer at Barge Pole Productions, said “Phil has made himself an invaluable member of the production team and has shown that he has many strings to his bow. He has a canny knack of managing a hectic workflow without looking stressed and has become something of an expert at data wrangling and maintaining kit. Phil has shown a real flair in the edit and his energy and willingness to help on all productions, whatever the task, puts him head and shoulders above the norm”. Joe Mahoney, MD of ProductionBase added “Phil has only been a runner for a short time but has received glowing references from his production company. Phil has made himself totally invaluable by not only being incredibly efficient at his general running duties, he has started to edit taster tapes, completed a course on the EX3 and can now shoot on the Canon XF305. With his go-getter attitude and natural ability, Phil has a bright future ahead of him”. Runners up in this category are Kyrie Barker and Lucy Kane.
David Peat, Producer/Director will pick up Outstanding Freelancer of the Year, which focuses on key achievements and outstanding contributions throughout the year. Runners up are Charlotte Wassermann (Development AP), Patrick Boyle (Camera Operator/Sound Recordist), and Isobel Ricketts (Producer/Director)
Ian McCue (Line Producer) will be awarded with Beyond The Call of Duty, which considers freelancers who have gone way beyond their usual protocol and achieved an exceptional outcome as a result of their dedication and hard work. Runners up are Tom O'Brien (Development Producer), Tyrone D Murphy (Director/Producer)
Soraya Ahmed will be awarded with Production Manager of the Year, which considers the key contribution made my Production Managers across the industry, and honours those that have particularly excelled in their role. Runners up are Edwin Wyatt and Carmelina Palumbo
