Oct. 29, 2012 - PRLog -- Minneapolis—Social Capital is pleased to announce that it will hold its upcoming “party with a purpose” Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at Honey in Northeast Minneapolis. Keeping with the model for which it has gained recognition, Social Capital will support three local non-profit organizations through this event. These organizations are YouthLink, Simpson Housing Services and CAPI’s Asian Food Shelf.

“We believe that giving back should be easy,” said Emily Shannon, Executive Director of Social Capital. “That’s why Social Capital events are structured like a fun night out with friends. When we allow people to attend a charitable event with a low cost of entry to kick off a Saturday night, everyone wins.”

This Social Capital event raises money just like the preceding events—Social Capital lets attendees decide how much money they want to donate and choose what charity gets their donation. Attendees can learn about each charity while at the event and can donate as little or as much as they like. This method has proven successful in the past—attracting hundreds of people and raising thousands of dollars in a single night.

This model was born from the idea that there needed to be a way for people to get involved in philanthropy in a simple, fun and affordable way.

“The very reason Social Capital exists is because we believe that social networks have power and that gatherings can create change,” said Shannon. “We serve the community with that in mind.”

About Social Capital
Social Capital is a Minneapolis-based group that believes philanthropy should be fun and accessible to all. Founded in 2009, Social Capital began as a simple idea to help get friends, families and communities together through events that raise awareness and act as fundraisers for multiple philanthropic causes.

Social Capital believes there is strength in numbers and that a fun night on the town can be a powerful way to do good and party with a purpose. In the end, everyone wins. Check out http://www.iamsocialcapital.org (http://iamsocialcapital.org/) for additional information.

About YouthLink
YouthLink serves as a critical resource for homeless, precariously housed, and marginalized young people (ages 15-21). It is a safe and supportive refuge from life on the street when they need help to meet their basic needs, and a respectful and responsive community of excellence where they can choose to take positive steps toward empowerment and self-sufficiency. Founded in 1974 as the Minneapolis Youth Diversion Program (MYDP), a unit of the Hennepin County Area Youth Diversion Programs, the organization changed its name to YouthLink in 2001, realizing its mission to connect with young people in a whole new way. Today, YouthLink is a community “hub” for youth who are homeless, struggling with their education, or in need of advocacy to continue life’s path. About Simpson Housing Services

They believe that through close individual advocacy and support, men, women and families experiencing homelessness achieve housing stability. Simpson Housing Services is committed to housing people quickly, then providing services as needed. They provide a full continuum of supportive housing services to end chronic homelessness, including:

·      Emergency shelters for men and women

About CAPI and CAPI’s Asian Food Shelf
CAPI’s food shelf is the state of Minnesota’s only Asian specific food shelf and serves an average of 2,000 low income individuals (approximately 350 families) each month. CAPI’s food shelf provides culturally appropriate food for qualified low-income Southeast Asians, but it also responds to the need for “linguistic accessibility”—no other food shelf in the Twin Cities is managed by Hmong-speaking staff. CAPI’s food shelf serves as a gateway to a myriad of self-sufficiency services for refugee and immigrant families offered by CAPI and other organizations.
