Dec. 22, 2011 - PRLog -- WESTCHESTER CO, NY: Transition US is excited to announce that Transition Westchester has become the 106th official Transition Initiative in the United States. Transition Initiatives start when a small collection of motivated individuals within a community come together with a shared concern: how can our community respond to the challenges and opportunities of peak oil, climate change and the economic crisis? This small team of people begins by forming an initiating group and then adopts the Transition Model with the intention of engaging a significant proportion of the people in their community to kick off a Transition Initiative.

John Bell, a member of Transition Westchester's Initiating Group, shared that "We are excited about the visibility this milestone gives, which will make it easier for people to find us and thus help us in our mission of encouraging the creation of and the support of local Transition Initiatives within Westchester County, New York.  Great projects undertaken we have undertaken include 'Chicken Flick' - a short film about the advantages of backyard chickens and next summer we plan to release a short film about garbage/ zero waste."

Transition US is a nonprofit organization that provides inspiration, encouragement, support, networking, and training for Transition Initiatives across the United States.
