Hidden deep in one of America’s most beautiful islands, Kauai, Phil Jones and his band have been crafting a remarkably enlightening blend of world infused electro-rock.
The mellow grooves of Phil’s music and the peaceful yearning for a better world expressed by his lyrics are reminiscent of Jack Johnson, while his deep, gritty voice and penetrating wisdom evoke the work of Leonard Cohen. In their Moby-esque, electronic-tinged acoustic prowl and mystical whimsy songs like “The Perfect Wave” and “The Golden Race” suggest a 21st century revamp of Mr. Cohen’s seminal album, “The Future.” But such a comparison only gives a small hint at the dynamic sound on Raise Up, Phil Jones’ forthcoming LP.
Phil’s songs, which tend to come to him in dreams, are just as effortlessly transformed into full-blown arrangements at the hands of his extremely talented band of local players. The band insists on keeping things light, even when the subject matter gets a bit heavy. As Phil explains, “as soon as it gets too serious or we push too hard, things don’t work out.” This seems to apply not only to writing music, but also to the way Phil looks at life in general.
Phil invites you to Raise Up, open your heart, and enjoy the ride.
