FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Nancy Silberkleit, Co-CEO of Archie Comics and Founder of ComicBookFairs.com acknowledged as "Ambassador Of Literacy" for Mamaroneck, NY by Mayor Norman Rosenblum

Monday, November 28, 2011 -  Mayor Norman Rosenblum of Mamaroneck, NY officially acknowledged Nancy Silberkleit, Co-CEO of Archie Comics and founder of ComicBookFairs.com as "Ambassador of Literacy" for Mamaroneck, NY.  The Mayor gave a wonderful introduction of Nancy and succinctly stated that her title as "Ambassador of Literacy" was due to her endless efforts to combat and bring awareness to a pandemic issue that effects 1 out of every 7 citizens in the United States.  Mayor Rosenblum is the newest addition to a list of many political leaders such as; Former Governor David Patterson who support Nancy and her efforts to abolish illiteracy.  Mrs. Silberkleit states: "My efforts to make the world understand that early intervention on the importance of reading is one of the greatest investments I can give our children and the future of our country's advancement globally."

The definition of "Literary Ambassador" is as follows:  A diplomat who represents the spark to instilling a love of reading to children.  Additionally a maven that brings ideas and people together as an orchestrator of literary movements.  Someone who is propelling literacy for life changing educational knowledge.

Nancy Silberkleit since her tenure as Co-CEO of Archie Comics in 2008 (after the untimely death of her husband Michael Silberkleit, CEO of Archie Comics) founded the literacy program called; ComicBookFairs.com to bring a new level of awareness to Archie Comics.  Archie Comics is one of the worlds most recognized and most respected comic book literary experiences.  Nancy Silberkleit felt that Archie Comics over the years and throughout it's publishing history has created a strong influence on initiating reading among young audiences.  Nancy founded ComicBookFairs.com to enhance that experience.  ComicBookFairs.com uses Archie Comics holistic story lines to attract an audience base not divided by religion, social status, or gender and brings them to the wonder of reading.  When talking about Archie Comics, Nancy Silberkleit states; "We reach the world because at our very base, our stories are about the human experience that teach and instill wholesomeness and community driven cohesiveness to our readers."

Comic Book Fairs became the brainchild of Nancy SIlberkleit because as a retired elementary school teacher of 25 years and an avid Archie Comics fan, Nancy Silberkleit has seen firsthand the power of comics to encourage literacy and creativity in children.  "Children love to read comic books and graphic novels and often endeavor to mimic the format with their own creations.  Comics teach children about storytelling and exploring their artistic abilities through illustration. It is a natural progression for children.  Comic books serve as a bridge to reading from the picture books of their younger years.  That is why ComicBookFairs.com literacy program is a natural progression of their literary experience." explains Nancy Silberkleit.

Nancy's vision with Comic Book Fairs is twofold.  First and foremost it is to stimulate literacy and promote creativity by offering budding readers the opportunity to interact with comic books and graphic novels.  Secondarily, she recognized the need for schools to raise funds for educational programs in a healthy manner.  Nancy Silberkleit created the program to enable schools to sell comic books and earn 40% of the proceeds for their school, program or organization without upfront costs the disable many schools from fundraising.  Furthermore, as an educator, Nancy Silberkleit believes strongly in providing a strong learning component for children.  ComicBookFairs.com includes lesson plans for students in language and creative arts and provides the opportunity for career exploration through author visits.  Nancy also offers a tutorial on comic book publishing as the platform to engage students about the world of publishing.  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojbcaTdYV-k)  Lastly, ComicBookFairs.com also spurs community involvement with their very popular Masquerade Ball, where children, parents and teachers dress up as their favorite comic book character.
