Nov. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- After a series of successful valuation events across the whole of the West Midlands, auctioneers Biddle & Webb are ‘coming home’ to hold a special event on Saturday 19th November.

The Ladywood-based auctioneers have collaborated with Winterbourne House and Gardens and will be holding a valuation day at the early 20th century suburban villa and garden in Edgbaston.

The thoughtfully restored venue, Winterbourne House, is a fine example of Arts & Crafts movement architecture. Designed and built for John and Margaret Nettlefold a name synonymous with iconic engineering group Guest Keen and Nettlefold (GKN) the house is the perfect backdrop for this one day event based on BBC Antiques Roadshows television programme.

Owners of antiques and collectibles are invited to take along items of interest for Biddle & Webb’s experts to assess. This expertise is offered as a completely “no” obligation service although a small fee of £1 per item valued will be charged to help towards the venue’s running costs.

Biddle & Webb’s managing director, Jeremy Thornton hopes the event will encourage people to go searching in their attics and garages to find items that are either old, unusual or have some history attached to them.

Mr Thornton said: “As the event is less than a week after Remembrance Sunday and the poignant BBC Antiques Roadshows programme held at the National Memorial Arboretum, near Lichfield it may inspire people to bring items of militaria from the First and Second World War, or even things from earlier conflicts. Take the Crimean War for example, we have sold several rare medals on behalf of vendors that have commanded astonishing auction prices.

“I think also due to the history of the venue we are hoping that people may bring items from the Art Deco period dating back to 1920s and 1930s. Whatever items people bring along for us to value I am sure we will spend a great day in beautiful surroundings where our experienced valuation team will be pleased to assist.

“There’s a nice cafe where you can have a cup of coffee or lunch and traditionally we have always had lots of fun at these events and you would be surprised at the diversity and the value of some of the treasures we discover.”

The event starts at 11.00 am and finishes at 3.00 pm. For more information about Biddle & Webb visit: www.biddleandwebb.co.uk
