Bill Duncan, Global Head of Homewood Suites and Home2 Brand for Hilton Corporation was elected Board Chair. Bill was recently honored with the Executive Leadership Award by Volunteer Mid-South in recognition of his involvement with numerous nonprofits at both a local and national level.
Virginia Scherer, a long-time Board member of Catholic Charities of West Tennessee and an active volunteer in numerous other Memphis area activities was re-elected Vice-Chair. Virginia has been involved in various capacities with Madonna Circle, Germantown Women's Club, MIFA, St. Peter Villa, and as a foster parent (through Catholic Charities).
Dr. John Smarrelli Jr., is the President of Christian Brothers University and has been elected Secretary of the Board for Catholic Charities on West Tennessee. Dr. Smarrelli is been an active member of the Memphis community focusing on economic development and social services including involvement with Memphis area schools and economic development groups.
Commenting on the election of these individuals, Michael D. Allen, CEO of Catholic Charities of West Tennessee said, “We are so fortunate to have individuals of the caliber of Bill, Virginia and John willing to assist us as we undertake the important work of our ministry. I look forward to continuing to work with each of them over the next twelve months.”
Catholic Charities of West Tennessee is the social services arm of the Catholic Diocese of Memphis. It is one of the largest nonprofit, multi-social service providers in the Mid-south with special emphasis in the areas of homelessness, refugee resettlement and emergency services.
