The 2010 Santa Clarita Street Art Festival was held on Oct. 2 & 3 in downtown Newhall with one of the features of the event being the “Art on Canvas” competition. This year’s theme for the competition “A Fresh Look.” was open to residents of the Santa Clarita Valley. Out of approximately 1000 entries, the City’s Arts & Events Council had the unenviable task of choosing 20 artworks from each age category, that best fit the theme, to be displayed over the weekend event. Local students who attend Mission: Renaissance Fine Art Classes in Valencia were strongly represented and took home many of the top honors. In all, sixteen Mission: Renaissance students were displayed at the event and the following students of the fine art school received special recognition: “I think that in this time of record budget cuts taking art education out of the schools, the fact that our [Mission: Renaissance] Established in 1975, Mission: Renaissance is considered to be the world’s largest fine art program for children, teens, and adults with more than 2000 students attending classes each week.
