Black Velvet Deluxe Responds To Sonicbids Call To Aid Mercy Corps Relief Efforts In Haiti

Jan. 15, 2010 - PRLog -- Sonicbids’ Founder Panos Panay reached out to the music industry in a plea to aid those suffering in Haiti and promised to match all donations, dollar for dollar up to $10,000.

Indie rock band Black Velvet Deluxe out of Los Angeles, CA, answered this desperate appeal quickly with a donation, and their manager Stacey Marmolejo sent a quick note of gratitude to Panos, “Thanks for matching our donations and organizing this drive.”

Now the band members of Black Velvet Deluxe challenge all bands and music fans alike to get on board with this effort to bring some much-needed relief to these already impoverished people, who are suffering in almost incomprehensible ways. Time is of the essence, and every dollar really will count.  “If every band gave $1, we’d be at the $10,000 goal before the end of the day,” said vocalist Carlos Castenada. “So this challege isn’t just to ‘big bands’ it’s to EVERY BAND.”

As Mr. Panay said in his plea to the artist community, "As musicians, our collective passion is to make people feel good, to incite a smile and inspire positively. When you see the devastation in Haiti as the result of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck near Port-au-Prince, we ask ourselves what we can do to help the relief efforts, to ease the pain.
