The Houston Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) has named Amberly Allen, President of Direct Innovations, one of eight finalists in the (WBOY) Woman Business Owner of the Year award. Direct Innovations is a direct mail marketing company offering its clients real time, scientifically researched, mail based advertising.
Amberly began her company in 2005, at the age of 24. The first eight months in business as the only salesperson, sales hit $1M. Now, three years later, sales top $3M and the company is home to eight co-workers. Amberly is the youngest member of the Houston Women Presidents Organization, an honor that requires over $2M in sales annually. In August, Direct Innovations was named #21 on the list of Top 50 Fastest Growing Woman Owned Businesses in Houston by the Houston Business Journal.
The finalists were honored at the NAWBO- WBOY luncheon on September 25, 2008. The winner will be selected by the NAWBO Houston Board of Directors and receive her award at the NAWBO- WBOY Gala to be held at Hotel Derek on Thursday, October 23, 2008.
The award is the only one of its type given to Women Business Owners by Women Business Owners. Nominees to do not have to be NAWBO members, but they must demonstrate excellence and initiative as a business owner; creativity in problem solving, and a commitment to the Houston community.
NAWBO is a non-profit organization representing the interest of all women entrepreneurs in all types of businesses. The organization currently has over 75 chapters and is open to sole proprietors, partners and corporate owners with day-to-day management responsibility.
