Smiles & Teddy Bears to Welcome Migrant Children as Part of NYC School Initiative Leading with Kind

Students of public-school Wagner MS167 will be taking a field trip to PS 340 to deliver personalized teddy bears and notecards to migrant children.

MANHATTAN, N.Y. - Dec. 14, 2022 - PRLog -- Later in the afternoon, they will deliver bears and cards to children with disabilities at District 75 School for Special Education in the same school building. These visits are taking place as a result of the Leading with Kindness initiative that was launched by teacher Karen Feldman and sponsored by Bear Givers Inc. This program enables students to perform charitable acts of kindness in order to give back to their community and help those experiencing hardship and in need of comfort. Students participate in a lesson about kindness and research different charitable organizations, followed by a class vote on where to donate the bears. The teddy bears wear t-shirts which students decorate with fabric markers, and special note cards are written with well wishes to each recipient of a bear. The goal of implementing this program into NYC public school curriculums is to prevent bullying and prejudicial behaviors, and to educate students about causes that they feel are important. This program will allow students to use valuable tools to help create a positive change in the world.

At Wagner MS167, students appreciate that they are challenged academically in an environment where teachers take the time to get to know them personally. They also like all the opportunities available to them in a big school setting including extensive after‑school, band, and sports programs. Parents appreciate the diverse student population and dedicated staff, and they also value the accessibility of the administrators and teachers. Students and families work closely with an assistant principal and guidance counselor. In addition to a strong core curriculum, Wagner has one of the largest music programs in the city, providing approximately 500 students with instrumental classes. www.wagner167.org
