Grandpa's Walking Stick - new picture book "just happens to be" published in hardcover & paperback

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. - Aug. 1, 2016 - PRLog -- Barrow Court Books has published Grandpa's Walking Stick, a picture book about a little girl and her grandfather:

"Ellie is nervous to meet her Grandpa for the first time. While Papa and Daddy tell her Grandpa is going to love her, Ellie isn't so sure, especially when the subject of hiking to the top of Mount Atlas is discussed. But Ellie is in for a big surprise - in the shape of her Grandpa's walking stick."

Grandpa's Walking Stick explores the relationship between a girl and her grandfather in the context of a family that "just happens to be" headed by two fathers. The author explains, "When my husband and I had our daughter, we were given many wonderful picture books featuring children with same-sex parents. However, most of these books presented this as the theme of the story, rather than portraying our 'type' of family as background to some greater idea or event. Grandpa's Walking Stick is about a girl and her grandfather -- her having two fathers isn't a big deal because it really shouldn't be."

About the author JAMES A. PEREZ
JAMES A. PEREZ has worked in the field of education for over twenty years with children of all ages. He is a proud husband, father, and lifelong comic book fan who lives on Long Island with his family. In addition to his fantasy/adventure novels, Maia & Icarus and Maia & Hippolyta, he wrote Grandpa's Walking Stick, a picture book inspired by his daughter, Ellie.

About the illustrator STAN KUBICA
STAN KUBICA has been drawing for as long as he can remember. He is an avid fan of Wonder Woman and the X-Men, and his artwork has appeared in many comic books. He is also a performing artist who loves to sing, act and dance. He helped create and performed in an anti-bullying program that has toured high schools across America. He is originally from New York, but now lives in Seattle, Washington with his partner.
