Multiple Sclerosis is a long lasting disease that can affect the brain, spinal cord as well as the optic nerve in your eyes.  It can cause problems with vision, balance, muscle control and other bodily functions. MS occurs when your immune system attacks a fatty material called myelin, which wraps around your nerve fibers to protect them. Without this outer shell, your nerves become damaged. Scar tissue may form and the damaged nerves can cause your brain to have trouble communicating with your body.  Over 2.5 million people around the world have MS with over 400,000 of them residing in the United States.  200 people are diagnosed with the disease every week in North America.
