AMMAN, Jordan - Sept. 28, 2015 - PRLog -- Amman, Jordan (September 2015): In line with their role as ambassadors of excellence and leaders of their communities, several winners of the Queen Rania Al Abdullah Award for Distinguished Teacher/Principal/Council organized the “My School Backpack” project. The project entitled “Ahl Al Kheir” in preparation for the back-to-school season. The project aimed to collect stationary donations and other school supplies for students and schools in underprivileged areas.

The project is one of the many voluntary initiatives of Queen Rania Award ambassadors, reflecting on their desire to add extra value to their communities.

The organizers received donations (stationery, textbooks, school uniforms and other new as well as used supplies needed by students) in the Kingdom’s three regions.

The Project had a huge community interaction, with 1800 fully equipped backpacks collected; 890 from the Southern region, 610 from the central region and 300 from the Northern region. Donations were dispatched and distributed to interested students via a clearly set plan. By that, the total number of “My School Backpack” beneficiaries are 1800.

Organizers stressed the importance of such projects in enabling all children to receive proper education, noting that many underprivileged families are unable to provide their kids with the basic school supplies. They also highlighted the project’s social impact in promoting social solidarity among community members. Award Ambassadors believe in the betterment of society through the provision of adequate resources to all children. Their love and passion towards their students motivated them to start such an initiative and proceed with it achieving significant success and societal impact.

“I found out about ‘My School Backpack’ project through Facebook. I liked the concept and came today to offer a simple donation to this wonderful project, through which I hope I will be able to assist our students at school,” one donor said.

Commenting on the project, QRAE Director Lubna Touqan said: “Distinguished teachers and principals have proven once more that their role is not confined to the classroom; rather, it extends beyond the school to the wider society. They are leaders within their own communities and ambassadors of excellence,” Stressing on their ability to organize nationwide activities.

“Despite this project’s simplicity, something as simple as a new backpack can make an enormous difference in the students’ attitude and perspective towards the school year without worrying about how they will carry their supplies back and forth to school.” Added Touqan.
