Follow on Google News | FootGolf San Diego to Hold First Footgolf Event in the CountyLocal Organization Offers the Chance to Get Up Close and Personal with Fun New Hybrid Sport
Footgolf follows the rules of golf and is played on a golf course with a regulation soccer ball. Players kick a ball from the golf tee box, and aim for 21-inch holes positioned off to the side of the fairways or greens 75-150 yards away. The sport is easy to learn, affordable, and only requires a soccer ball to play. With the popularity of golf decreasing, and the increased cost of maintenance due to the statewide drought, golf courses are looking for alternative sources of income and new customers. “Footgolf has been a great addition to Rancho Carlsbad,” said General Manager Mike Cortes. “I am excited to see the growth of this fun and exciting new sport in the coming year.” In addition to the Carlsbad course, there are two other local courses sanctioned by the California FootGolf Association, Tecolote Canyon and National City. The April 19th Kick Off event is open to the public, and is a great introduction for people of all ages and abilities to come out and try this unique sport. The $30 registration fee includes a round of footgolf, a FootGolf San Diego t-shirt, sunglasses from Sunglass Supply Co. and a chance to win prizes from soccerloco, 91X FM, and more. Players from the San Diego Sockers will be on hand, and there will be a food truck on site as well. For footgolf newcomers, FootGolf San Diego will explain the rules and give a demo prior to kick off. Event details and registration info are available at www.footgolfsandiego.com. ### About FootGolf San Diego FootGolf San Diego’s mission is to build public awareness of the sport.
