Final four set for TPSL playoff battle

HOUSTON - Feb. 23, 2015 - PRLog -- The final TPSL league match of the 2014/15 season saw regular season champions Houston Hurricanes take on Texas State Cup champions Austin Real Cuauhtemoc in a battle that still had positional implications for the forthcoming playoff games.

Houston already had the number one spot sewn up but visiting ARC had eyes on the second place berth but knew they had to win this match to ensure the home tie in their playoff with Twin Cities.

Despite starting the stronger of the two teams, the Hurricanes found themselves a goal down after 15 minutes when Jesus Mora headed home to take the leadf or the visiting Austin side.

Diego Armando Rangel-Huerta doubled his sides lead just six minutes later to pile the pressure on the Hoops but just as the half was coming to an end, Carlos Robago scored for the home side to close the gap to 2-1 at the break.

The game was all but finished off as a competition just 17 minutes into the second period when a quickfire double in two minutes from Omar Aguirre and Jesus Mora gave the visiting ARC a 4-1 lead with 30 minutes remaining on the clock.

The league leaders never stopped fighting though and made it 4-2 when Dustin Botting scored on 70 minutes, however, when goal scoring machine Erwin Madrid bundled home a fifth for Austin, the game was finished at 5-2.

The victory for ARC sees them take home advantage against Twin Cities in two weeks time in the Championship semi-final playoff. The winner from that match will face either Houston Hurricanes, who are seeded 1, or Texas Timberz, who are seeded 4 who play next week for the opening spot in the Final.

To be played March 7th

Final will be played weekend of 21st/22nd March.

The Texas Premier Soccer League (TPSL) is a professionally run men's adult soccer program involving amateur and semi-pro clubs from across the state. The league runs from September to March. The US Club Soccer sanctioned Texas State Cup also plays in the winter break from the league. An opportunity to qualify for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is available for the championship winner through this sanctioning with US Club Soccer.
