Susan G. Komen Orange County Honors 2014 Race for Cure Top Teams at Appreciation Event

 
COSTA MESA, Calif. - Nov. 21, 2014 - PRLog -- COSTA MESA, Calif., Nov. 21, 2014 – Following another successful Race for the Cure this year, Susan G. Komen Orange County (http://www.komenoc.org/) recognized its top 2014 Race teams at a private reception on Nov. 18 in Newport Beach. 628 Race teams collectively raised more than $765,000 – 39 percent of the signature event’s overall 2014 fundraising effort – to support Komen’s mission of ending breast cancer forever. Teams were comprised of corporate groups, nonprofit organizations, friends and families.

“Race teams play a vital role at our annual Race for the Cure,” said Lisa Wolter, executive director of Komen Orange County. “We are proud to honor such wonderful groups who work tirelessly to raise funds for local breast health services so we can continue fighting this devastating disease.”

Awards were presented to the following:

Perpetual Trophy: Bank of America/Merrill Lynch Team – This award is given to the team that raised the most money at this year’s Race for the Cure. In total, the 481-member Bank of America/Merrill Lynch team netted more than $30,000. Since 2009, the Bank of America/Merrill Lynch team has raised more than $80,000.

Rookie of the Year Award Sponsored by Angels Baseball: Sparkle Shine Survive! – This award is given to a new Race for the Cure team that raised the most money. Sparkle Shine Survive! (http://www.komenoc.org/faf/search/searchTeamPart.asp?ieve...) is made up of 64 team members who raised nearly $14,000. The group was led by team captains Danielle and Margot Tyson.

Largest Race Team: CHASE the Cure – Another longtime supporter and sponsor of Komen Orange County’s Race, CHASE for the Cure (http://www.komenoc.org/faf/search/searchTeamPart.asp?ieve...) was honored for being the team with the most Race participants, coming in at 606 team members. The team raised more than $7,500.

Among the top 25 Race for the Cure teams, other groups were recognized for their hard work and dedication to raise funds for Komen OC. Categories included:

·         Top 3 Large Corporate Teams – Bank of America/Merrill Lynch team came in first as a large corporate team, followed by PIMCO with a team fundraising total of more than $23,000. The Experian team ranked third, collecting more than $21,000.

·         Top 3 Small Corporate Teams – With less than 50 employees,Dana West Yacht Club Shipmates took first place in this category, raising nearly $10,000. Clouds of Hope was second with more than $9,000 raised and Northgate Team to Race for the Cure followed with nearly $7,000 raised.

·         Top 3 Nonprofit Teams – First among the nonprofit teams was Hoag, raising nearly $22,000. Team Think Pink Inc. raised more than $10,000 to grab second place and The Lovely Ladies of Philoptochs was third with more than $5,000 raised.

·         Top 3 Friends and Family Teams – Komen Cures raised more than $21,000, good for first in this category. Sparkle Shine Survive! was second and Webb’s Wings took third with nearly $14,000 raised.

At the event, team captains, co-captains and their team mates gathered to celebrate a successful 2014 Race fundraising campaign and reinforce their commitment to Komen OC’s mission. The top 25 teams were awarded a commemorative plaque. Funds raised from the 2014 Race for the Cure provide no-cost mammograms, urgent diagnosis, breast health education and outreach in Orange County and groundbreaking breast cancer research to find a cure.
