Follow on Google News | Hands Up United Announces Strategic Action Plan For Justice For Mike BrownThrough a series of activities and demonstrations during the month of October, national groups will pressure Governor Jay Nixon to appoint a special prosecutor to handle Officer Darren Wilson's case.
By: Hands Up United The press teleconference call will highlight Hands Up United's weekend activities, feature speakers from local grassroots organizations and outline the youth group's organizing strategy, which will see them increasing public pressure on Missouri Governor Jay Nixon to appoint a special prosecutor in the Darren Wilson case. The family of Mike Brown made a similar request earlier this week. "This weekend is an opportunity for us to put a spotlight on Governor Jay Nixon," says Hands Up Leader Tef Poe. "Given the chaos that has taken place in Ferguson after the killing of Mike Brown, we're asking everyone that's concerned about justice to sign our petition demanding that Governor Nixon step up and appoint a special prosecutor and end the current mockery of justice." Thoughtworks social justice technologist, Abby Bobe, was recently arrested while trying to film the arrest of a 19-year-old activist. The Philadelphia native was handcuffed, hog tied and thrown into the back of squad car by Ferguson police for documenting officers using excessive force. Bobe has been helping Hands Up United design a digital art project, which will launchOctober 22nd. The project will see activists in 50 cities across the world projecting images and videos of Ferguson protests on building and public spaces. "This is bigger than Ferguson, the entire world is watching and waiting to see what happens to Darren Wilson," says BobË. "Governor Jay Nixon has a huge opportunity to been seen as hero all over the world. Hopefully he will do the right thing and appoint a special prosecutor."
