Follow on Google News | The Wilbur Goes Dark in Honor of Joan RiversHistoric Boston Theater Turns off Marquee in Memory of the Late Joan Rivers
By: The Wilbur Theatre “Joan was one of the greats and we’ve had a devastating loss in the entertainment industry. We’re honored to have had such a long-standing relationship with Joan, and dimming our lights tonight is just a small way to honor her legacy,” said Bill Blumenreich, owner of The Wilbur and long-time promoter for Joan Rivers. The movement was started by Jordan Roth of Jujamycn Theaters after The Broadway League, which represents theater owners and producers, decided against memorializing Rivers by dimming the lights, claiming that she did not meet the criteria. The Wilbur is the first Boston theater to join the movement and there is a growing list of petitioners urging Broadway to do the same.
