Follow on Google News | Exceptional Export Performance Wins Sunday Times HSBC Fast Track Listing for Street CraneIndustrial crane and hoist manufacturer, Street Crane Company, has won a place in the Sunday Times/HSBC Fast Track Awards for outstanding growth in export sales.
By: Street Crane Company Chairman, Martin Street noted, “This is a real tribute to the hard work of everyone in the company. Our team strives to give our customers the best service we can. It is reassuring to be recognised for this by such a prestigious external body as the Sunday Times HSBC Fast Track Awards.” Street Crane is, by a considerable margin, the UK’s largest factory crane and hoist producer, serving all branches of UK industry and supplying hoists and crane components to other crane builders overseas. “Exporting was initiated as a response to the contraction of core manufacturing sectors in the UK. Re-orientating the business to focus on overseas markets has been very successful for us because it has also energised the UK business,” explained Street’s managing director, Andrew Pimblett. “We invested heavily to create the ZX electric wire rope hoist, a highly adaptable and robust range of hoists that meets the needs of crane applications up to 80 tonnes. This gave us the product to lead export sales and the volume and scale economies to be more competitive in our home market.” The company is soon to open a new factory, adjoining the Chapel-en-le- Andrew Pimblett added, “We are not just a hoist and crane component seller, but provide our trade partners with a full support package, tailored to their needs. This can include training – either here or in their own country, bespoke software for structural design and costing, support from regionally based managers in key markets and a programme of active product support and development.” The High Peak factory produces around 400 complete cranes per year. These are mostly for the home market. Current wire rope hoist production is about 2,500 wire rope hoist units per year, with the majority of these units going to overseas crane builders. Street is also a supplier of electric chain hoists. Approximately £3 million has been invested in building the new hoist works to double hoist production capacity. Street Crane has a team of 170 staff of whom over 10 per cent work in research and development. The company engineer cranes to meet the needs of all types of industry, from primary material producers such as steel, aluminium and glass to aerospace, automotive, rail, marine, offshore and engineering. Sister company, Street Crane Express (SCX) – meets aftermarket requirements for service and spares for Street’s cranes and hoists. This company also engineer special lifting equipment, for use in theatres and studios for example. The moving roof at Wimbledon was engineered by SCX.
