PHOENIX - April 25, 2014 - PRLog -- Snell & Wilmer is pleased to announce that attorneys Sara Agne, William Poorten and Amanda Sheridan have been selected as recipients for the 2014 Top 50 Pro Bono Attorneys in Arizona award given by the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education.

The Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education instituted the annual award in 2001 to recognize attorneys who “have tirelessly given their time and expertise to assist Arizonans who would otherwise have no legal resources.” The State Bar of Arizona created the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education with the mission of promoting access to justice for all Arizonans.

Agne, an associate in the Phoenix office of Snell & Wilmer, is a board member for the Florence Immigrant & Refugee Rights Project, a nonprofit organization providing free legal services to men, women and unaccompanied children federally detained in Arizona. The Project nominated her for the award based on her pro bono work with cases before Arizona’s juvenile courts and federal immigration courts. Agne concentrates her practice in healthcare and government relations matters, including compliance and regulatory issues, federal and state legislative matters, and professional liability defense. Her experience includes appellate matters, utility and environmental matters, commercial litigation, criminal defense, licensure board matters and media law.

Poorten, a partner in the Tucson office of Snell & Wilmer, was nominated by the Southern Arizona Legal Aid Volunteer Lawyers Program, which matches attorneys who wish to do pro bono work with low-income clients in need of civil legal assistance. He concentrates his practice in the areas of common carrier liability and commercial litigation, including real estate, easement and title disputes, construction, architect and engineer liability, as well as issues related to real estate development, environmental, natural resources and securities.

Sheridan, an associate in the Phoenix office of Snell & Wilmer, was nominated by the Volunteer Lawyers Program (VLP), a joint project of Community Legal Services and the Maricopa County Bar Association, for her efforts as the firm’s liaison to VLP. In addition, she serves on the VLP Firm Liaison Board and administers the VLP program internally at Snell & Wilmer. She focuses her practice on product liability, commercial litigation and criminal defense. In addition, Sheridan is a member of the Defense Research Institute and currently sits on the board of directors for the Maricopa County Bar Association.
