By: American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) It is not uncommon for an HR professional to be responsible for the hiring of dozens or more positions within an organization along with their normal daily duties. With many of these people being tasked with multiple responsibilities, it’s important that the American Board of Industrial Hygiene continues to educate HR professionals about the Certified Industrial Hygienist program. This is an ongoing challenge and opportunity since some in the HR profession may not fully understand what being a CIH signifies or may not even be aware of the certification. Just as ABIH takes opportunities to provide information about the CIH program to the HR community, CIHs themselves can play a pivotal role in helping with this process. Many CIHs are uniquely positioned to address the value contribution of their specific role towards their organization’ “Over the past half a century, thousands of industrial hygiene professionals have obtained the prestigious Certified Industrial Hygienist certification and the program is well known by many in hiring positions,” said Lynn O’Donnell, CIH, Executive Director for the American Board of Industrial Hygiene. “There is always more that we can all do to ensure that what it means to be a CIH is understood by industry, institutions and government agencies. ABIH will continue our efforts to spread awareness of the value and benefits of hiring those who have distinguished themselves through the CIH program.” For those interested in learning more about the benefits of CIH certification, ABIH has released a video that can be viewed at: www.abih.org/ To learn more about the American Board of Industrial Hygiene or the Certified Industrial Hygienist program, please visit www.ABIH.org, email abih@ABIH.org or call (517) 321-2638.
