COLUMBUS, Ohio - Dec. 3, 2013 - PRLog -- I have suffered social anxiety symptoms for over twenty-five years. I am using a simple technique in overcoming social anxiety by using self-hypnosis. I have seen some of my fears crumble, but not the “biggies” as of yet. My level of commitment to self-hypnosis has to come at a daily pace where right now, I am only doing it every-other day. However, I have promised to do self-hypnosis daily, no matter what. I do believe, that if I set my thinking patterns on a more positive level, I will see small changes and then bigger ones over time. Again – I have to do this daily and will take some discipline.

I will not go into how to do self-hypnosis. However, I want to talk about the level of hypnosis I go into when I utilize this technique. I’ll explain what I am talking about. Whenever I do mediation, I sometimes do it for only ten minutes. In that case, I just breath in and out (deeply) for a couple minutes and relax my body. After I do this, I feel relaxed, but I may still have a few negative thoughts bouncing around within my mind. When this happens, I focus or visualize myself on a beach. If there is a negative thought that comes around, I focus more on the waves or my “paradise environment”. After five minutes of relaxing my mind, I then visualize myself facing my social anxiety. For an example, if I have a fear of speaking in front of a group of people, I picture myself of delivering the speech of my life where confidence and relaxation oozes through me. I feel confidence igniting inside me while I see people’s faces and their reactions to me – hanging on my every word and loving me – and me loving them back. I tell myself that I love giving speeches. The quick ten to fifteen minute meditation I usually feel pretty relaxed, but nothing like a deep trance which usually takes me twenty to thirty minutes to totally relax both my mind and body.

The big improvement that I need to do in my life is doing it consistently (as I said earlier). This is changing today and will be reporting back via hubpages and both my websites how I am doing. However, I want to touch on another technique when a person does mediation. I read this past week that some people, when meditating, think of the worst case scenario for about forty-five minutes. So if a person is afraid of speaking in public, they will picture themselves in the worst possible state. In other words, they may see themselves being scared and nervous and people talking about them. They claim that it works – something I might try in the near future. I can see that if a person is really scared of the unknown, they just imagine the worst possible thing – and the negative energy that is pent up within them usually disappears. I find this interesting, though I prefer the positive approach, I may have to picture the worst that can happen.

All in all, when overcoming social anxiety, I really believe that one must use self-hypnosis. The only thing better than the meditation technique is facing the fear head on. However, I think if you can take the edge off your fears through meditation first – it will be much easier in facing your fears in real life.
