C&M Recruitment Consultancy and Chisholm & Moore Executive Recruitment’s Travel Salary Index – October 2013

·         Average travel job salaries increase after falling in September
·         Three-month average figure holds steady, but rises annually
·         New candidates and new travel vacancies both increase strongly

Travel salaries on the up

In welcome news for the whole travel industry, the average salary for new jobs in the sector increased in October, while the number of new candidates and vacancies also rose. The latest Travel Salary Index from C&M Recruitment Consultancy (http://www.candm.co.uk/) and Chisholm & Moore Executive Recruitment (http://www.chisholmandmoore.co.uk/), which studied all new vacancies registered at the companies in the month, found that average salaries increased by 1.61 per cent in October to reach £24,548, following a fall in September.

Annually, salaries were up by 1.27 per cent, while the three-month average figure remained static, but rose by a healthy 2.52 per cent compared to the same period in 2012.

Analysing the statistics, Barbara Kolosinska, sales director at C&M Recruitment Consultancy (http://www.candm.co.uk/), said: “After an underwhelming few months, we’re delighted to see that salaries are increasing again. This is a positive sign not only for candidates, but also for the whole industry as it suggests that travel companies are becoming more confident and looking to strengthen their teams with experienced candidates.

“It now appears that the average travel salary for 2013 will see a healthy rise from last year, which is great news as we head into the winter period.”

Strong increases in new candidates and vacancies

Even more impressive than October’s rise in average salary were the increases in both the number of new travel job vacancies and the number of candidates registering for roles. October’s total number of new jobs ranked second only to May as the best month of 2013 so far, while the number of new candidates also rose by an impressive 9.67 per cent in the month to reach its highest level since July.

“The increases in both the number of new vacancies and the number of candidates registering for the positions confirmed that October was a very positive month for the travel recruitment sector,” said Ms Kolosinska.

“The sharp increase in new job vacancies in the month suggests that travel companies are already feeling optimistic about 2014 and are aiming to put new recruits in place ready for the start of the year.”
