Dallas Chamber Symphony Presents 5 Composers and 3 World-premiers of Short Film Classics, Nov. 19th

DALLAS - Oct. 23, 2013 - PRLog -- As the Dallas Chamber Symphony continues its sophomore season, it also continues to break the boundaries of traditional musical performance by introducing all of Dallas/Fort Worth to innovative cultural experiences. The Symphony’s November 19 program is no exception – featuring original film scores by up-and-coming film composers Alain Mayrand, Penka Kouneva, and Brian Satterwhite. These new scores will be set to the classic silent films “Ask Father” starring Harold Lloyd, “By the Sea” starring Charlie Chaplin and “The Scarecrow” featuring Buster Keaton. These original, DCS-commissioned film scores will be performed live to film, synchronized to the action on screen.

Brian Satterwhite returns as a featured composer this year, after receiving honors as a Finalist in the prestigious Jerry Goldsmith Awards for his composition of “A Sailor-Made Man” which was premiered by the Dallas Chamber Symphony last November. Each of these featured film composers have also composed for major recent films, including “Elysium”, “Transformers” and Disney’s “The Lone Ranger”.

The first half of the concert will welcome Katie Wolber (DCS principal French horn), who will perform the substantive solo part to Britten’s Serenade for Tenor Horn and Strings. Wolber studied French Horn performance with Greg Hustis at Southern Methodist University.  The DCS is also pleased to welcome renowned opera singer Shawn Mlynek as the featured tenor for the piece. Mlynek currently sings for the Cincinnati Chamber Opera, Indianapolis Opera, and has an upcoming solo debut at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fischer Hall.

The performance will be held on Tuesday, November 19th, 2013 at City Performance Hall (2520 Flora Street, Dallas, Texas 75201). ABOUT DALLAS CHAMBER SYMPHONY

Launched in September 2012, the Dallas Chamber Symphony is the newest professional performance ensemble in North Texas. Led by Artistic Director and Conductor Richard McKay, it is comprised of close to 40 musicians, all dedicated to building a chamber orchestra whose mission is to perform a balance of programs that include underrepresented and standard repertory, contemporary music, staged works, and pieces with extra-musical elements, such as film, actors, dancers, and narrators.
