Born in 1902, Mrs. Reed was the daughter of William Prehn and Agnes Roberts Quentell.   In 1921 she married Verner Z. Reed, Jr. of Denver, Colorado heir to a mining and real estate fortune. After first settling in Denver, they later moved to Pinehurst, North Carolina where Mrs. Reed lived while her husband served in the Air Force during WWII.  While in Pinehurst, she founded a political group called The Sentinels.  The Reeds eventually settled in Newport, Rhode Island.  They built their first home in the 1930s known as “Terre Mare.” After the home was severely damaged in the hurricane of 1938, they moved to a famous Newport mansion, “The Orchard”.  They also kept a second home in Palm Beach, Florida.

Mrs. Reed was a well-known artist, particularly her still life studies and landscapes.  In 1964, one of her paintings was selected for an exhibition in Palm Beach.  Her paintings were always signed Gaggy Reed.  Mrs. Reed was also a keen sportswoman and excelled in riding, skiing, tennis, sailing and golf.  She was a member of the Metropolitan Opera Council of New York, the Palm Beach Fourth Arts Society and The Art Association of Newport. Gaggy passed away in 1966 at her home in Palm Beach. Her family has finally decided to part with her final treasures.

This auction is the debut of a new e-commerce site Hatatorium Emporium.
