WASHINGTON - Aug. 29, 2013 - PRLog -- WHAT:

The Richards Group Foundation will launch “Project 1335,” a year-round community enrichment program focused on the Brookland Manor neighborhood of Northeast, DC, with a Back to School Youth Empowerment Day. The Youth Empowerment Day will provide youth with stuffed backpacks, an opportunity to register for mentoring and community services, entertainment, food, inspirational remarks by community leaders, live music and performances, all designed to encourage youth to be inspired for the school year.

WHO:

Partners include Stan Richards, recipient of the Steve Harvey Neighborhood Award for Best Community Leader and The Richards Group Foundation, Community Services Foundation, Brookland Manor Community Center and Resident Association, Dreams Work, Inc. and Will Rap 4 Food, Inc.

The program includes performances by Recording Artist Chi Chi Monet, 10, We Make Dreams Work; remarks by Community Leader/Artist/Actor Anwan “Big G” Glover; music by DJ MIM, and a performance by Will Rap 4 Food, Inc.

Special invited guests include residents of Brookland Manor, Ward 5 Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie, Ward 5 Advisory Neighborhood Commission and the Economic Development Corporation.

Thursday, August 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Basketball court in Brookland Manor NE, DC (14th) and Saratoga Avenue

WHY:

Project 1335 is a new community enrichment program designed to inspire youth in Brookland Manor to see beyond their circumstances by helping with academic achievement, entrepreneurship and job training, mentoring, community service events and more. Project 1335 is named after the building number where Stan Richards was raised with his seven siblings. The project kickoff Back to School Youth Empowerment Day will inspire young people to aim for success during the school year.
