Celgene Corporation raises $8,500 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night Walk

June 25, 2013 - PRLog -- Celgene Corporation (http://www.celgene.com/)  announced it raised $8,500 at its “Baskets and Beverages” benefit event last week with proceeds going to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night^® Walk (http://www.lightthenight.org/sd/).

The San Diego division of the multinational biopharmaceutical company’s annual event was organized by the C3-Celgene Crusaders for Cures (http://pages.lightthenight.org/sd/SanDiego13/celgene) team and funds collected will go towards cancer patients and survivors.

“Our 2013 fundraising goal is $25,000 and this event put us off to a good start. We’re grateful to all the companies that donated items, employees that created baskets and appreciate all our supporters that helped us collect thousands of dollars for this worthy cause,” said Patty Waymire, Executive Assistant at Celgene Corporation in San Diego. “We still have our work cut out for us and appreciate any additional financial assistance we can get as we not only work to reach our goal, but surpass it.”

The Light The Night Walk will take place on Friday, November 8 at Petco Park. Teams and individual walkers will join together in twilight holding illuminated balloons – white for survivors, red for supporters and gold to remember those lost to cancer.

“Each year, Celgene brings in thousands of dollars through this fundraising event and it’s so great to see how many people graciously contribute to support lifesaving blood cancer research and critical patient and family services,” said Joanna Winsborough, Senior Campaign Manager for the Light The Night Walk in San Diego. “They’ve been a huge supporter of ours and we’re extremely grateful to have this kind of backing from such a respected and philanthropic local biopharmaceutical company.”
