BOSTON - May 23, 2013 - PRLog -- New Mission High School Teacher Natasha Huggins is a proud educator at New Mission High School, a Boston Public School. Natasha's students not only excel academically but  are aware of the global community and the great responsibility it is to represent one's country well. On March 15, 2013, 15 New Mission high school students hosted 36 students from Nagano Nishi High School in Nagano, Japan. These young ambassadors-in-training made new friends and represented their school, Boston and American high school students well. The New Mission Titans built bridges of friendship across cultures and in doing so have been offered the chance to visit Japan.
Their instructors goal is to take 15 New Mission High School students to Japan to re-connect with their new friends, and "learn about Japanese culture and to participate in a community service project at Second Harvest." Miss Huggins has set the travel date as October 14, 2013 students to return October 21, 2013.
Miss Huggins is no stranger to the kind of awakening travel can have on young minds "I have a passion for teaching and intercultural relations. Over 10 years ago, I taught English as a Second language in Japan. I went to Japan on the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) program. The JET program vision is for invited foreigners to work, live and get involved in their host Japanese communities. When JETs return home, we are charged with sharing Japanese culture and promoting internationalism. I kept my promise. I had the good fortune to continue in education and have always used my experience in Japan to inspire my students to dream big and think globally."
The students and Miss Huggins ask that those who support cultural understanding, international networking and urban education. Be a part of the exciting opportunity to support the next generation of global ambassadors. With all contributions to be used for travel scholarships to defray the cost of airfare, hotel accommodations and meals. The Titans held a bowling fundraiser in April and to date they have raised over $3,000 dollars of their $10,000 dollar goal.
