Davy Jones of the Monkeesdied of a massive heart attack at age 66. The singer, who was on solo tour this month, complained of chest pains on Wednesday morning and was admitted to a hospital in Stuart, Florida. An official Rhonda Irons spokeswoman of the Martin County Sheriff's Office and an official from the medical examiner's office for Martin County, Fla. have confirmed Jones death .
After leaving England to appear on the Ed Sullivan show with the cast of Oliver, Jones was cast in The Monkees, a comedy show inspired by the Beatles. The Monkees, Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork formed in 1966 and topped the charts with"I'm A Believer" in 1967 they eventually went on a nationwide tour as a band and had hits like "Last Train to Clarksville,"
"Pleasant Valley Sunday," "Stepping Stone" and "Daydream Believer." On many songs Jones sang lead. The group became so popular because of the video-like music scenes in the TV show that in 1967 the group sold more albums than the Beatles. There was always controversy surrounding whether the group used ghost musicans but the singing was all their own.The singer is survived by his wife Jessica and four daughters from previous marriages.
