MERRILLVILLE, Ind. - May 20, 2013 - PRLog -- The June 24 release date for the all-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee, announced by Chrysler’s CEO, will be pushed back a month due to a slight recalibration of Chrysler’s short-term plans, rather than any major delays or problems with production. The reinvented Cherokee is Jeep’s most important vehicle this year, as it represents a bold re-entry into the midsize SUV market.

According to Marchionne, the Cherokee will “roll into framing sometime in the middle of June” at the company’s Toledo North assembly plant. The plant is currently constructing practice builds of the vehicle in order to get everything working perfectly in time for the big rollout. Although pre-production process is going smoothly, the Cherokee launch does present some unique challenges for Chrysler.

Like several other Chrysler vehicles, including the Dodge Dart and the upcoming Ram ProMaster, the platform of the Cherokee will be borrowed from Fiat, Chrysler’s majority owner – interestingly, the same platform that the Dart is based upon. The Cherokee is also integrating a new nine-speed transmission developed by ZF Group, an outside manufacturer. Putting these components together into an entirely new Jeep vehicle, while resulting in what Marchionne has referred to as a “complicated industrial launch,” also promises to result in a vehicle that delivers what drivers are looking for in a midsize SUV.

Jeep is putting a lot into this new SUV partially because it has its sights set on more than just the North American market. The 2014 Jeep Cherokee not only has to strike the perfect balance of style and features in order to appeal to both both foreign and domestic buyers, but it has to comply with a variety of safety and environmental regulations imposed by various countries. With such a big target market, Jeep wants to be certain that the all-new Cherokee is the best SUV it can possibly be.

Drivers can experience the all-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee when it rolls into their local Jeep dealership later this year. With cutting-edge tech and an available Trail-Rated Trailhawk model, this Jeep promises to be a vehicle of unparalleled versatility, functionality, and style.
