March 4, 2013 - PRLog -- New York, NY – Pet lovers should get their best pet friends ready for The Greater New York Pet Expo, which comes to town on Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 10am to 6pm at the Nassau Coliseum.  Attendees will enjoy spending a fun-filled and educational day with their best pet friend. This free, indoor and air-conditioned event attracts thousands of pet lovers along with their furry, feathered and reptilian pals who are looking to enjoy a day of live entertainment, education, super fun contests and all kinds of exciting demonstrations.

Shorty Rossi, star of ‘Pit Boss’ on Animal Planet, will make an appearance with his popular canine sidekicks, Hercules and Mario. As Rossi’s star has continued to rise, it’s only managed to allow him to make a bigger difference for his special passion: championing the cause of pit bulls. Not only will he be available for pictures and autographs all day, he’ll share how you can become an advocate for animals and help make a difference as well.

If you’re looking to add a pet to your family, a major highlight of the Greater New York Pet Expo is the mega-adoption event, hosted by Banfield Pet Hospital with over 200 adoptable pets available. Ethan Barnett, Director of Public Relations for the expo explains, “The mega-adoption event is always a very popular part of this show. Nothing compares to seeing the connection between someone and their new forever pet friend.” As always, dozens of rescue groups will be on hand to answer your questions and help ensure that you find the pet that could be the very best fit for your unique family.

Barnett adds, “There are so many pet-friendly resources available to pet lovers and owners in their communities and our goal is to help get that information out there. Plus, people have few options that allow them to spend a day bonding with their pet in an indoor environment where it’s all about the pets. You also won’t want to miss the live entertainment and demos going on all day on multiple stages and activity courses. You can   register your pet friend to take part in popular competitions such as the costume contest, talent contest or pet/owner musical chairs.

As always, pets are welcome to attend the event, as long as they’re on a fixed lead and have proof of age-appropriate rabies vaccines. If your pet is not up-to-date, don’t worry. There will be discounted vaccinations and low-cost micro chipping available. You can even take advantage of free nail trims.
