Ft Myers Pool Builders Sponsor 5th Annual Calusa 5K Bug Chase

Jan. 16, 2013 - PRLog -- A Ft Myers pool company has gained a reputation for helping southwest Florida children in far more ways than providing places for them to swim. For the second year in a row, Pool Pros and Aqua Illusions of Ft Myers, Florida are sponsoring the 5th annual Calusa 5K BUG Chase and 1/2 Mile BUG Crawl Trail Walk. The event is a fundraiser for the Fort Myers Metro-McGregor Kiwanis B.U.G (“Bring Up Grades”) program. Both the run and walk will be held on Saturday, January 26th at the Calusa Nature Center. Participants in the Calusa BUG 5K event will have a unique backdrop for their run or walk. The picturesque scenery, wildlife, and educational exhibits at the Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium will provide an extraordinary setting for this event. The Nature Center is situated on 105 acres, and features a museum, planetarium, butterfly and bird aviaries, picnic areas, and three nature trails. In addition, there are animals residing at the center, such as a bobcat, skunk, white tail deer, raccoon, and more.

The Calusa BUG event is just one of the many charitable events and community organizations that Pool Pros Inc (http://www.PoolPros-Inc.com) has supported throughout the years. Pool Pros owner, Joe Mitchell, has a passion for helping children succeed, and has always made it a priority to support these types of charitable efforts. “Theresa and I are both involved with education through volunteering in the classrooms, working on furthering more male involvement in our schools with the WATCHDOG program, working with the Greater Ft Myers Chamber of Commerce to award grants to local teachers, and most importantly, working with our own children to show them the importance of family, respect for others, health, and education,” said Joe Mitchell, Pool Pros. “Events like The BUG Run bring all of these things together.”

All profits from the Calusa Bug Run/Walk event will go to benefit local area students. The Kiwanis BUG program promotes diligence and success by providing incentives to children who need help in school. The program is currently in operation at Lee County Schools, including Orangewood, Colonial, and Littleton Elementary. Through the BUG program, students are encouraged to reach their full potential by raising their grades, and continuing to do well in school. Through contributions of businesses such as Pool Pros and Aqua Illusions, Kiwanis is able to continue their efforts to help children reach this goal.

In addition to the Kiwanis BUG program, the Mitchell’s have shown strong support for various other educational efforts in Lee County.

“We recently joined the Foundation for Lee County Schools as a board member, and will always embrace the words of its leader, Marshall Bower,” said Mitchell. Marshall’s words were ‘The leaders of tomorrow are being educated today. They will be making decisions that will affect us, so we had better make sure they have every possible opportunity we can afford them.’ “Our kids are excited to participate again this year as a family.
