Following are some of the key activities planned: SATURDAY, JANUARY 5 The Memphis Symphony Orchestra Presents Aloha Hawaii 7:30 p.m. Cannon Center for the Performing Arts, 255 North Main Street The Memphis Symphony Orchestra celebrates Elvis’ birthday and the 40th anniversary of “Aloha from Hawaii” with a special concert event featuring Terry Mike Jeffrey. SUNDAY, JANUARY 6 Official Elvis Insiders Fan Club Reception and Graceland Tour 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Graceland A private evening tour of Graceland Mansion in its holiday splendor and a reception across the street in Graceland Plaza. Special guests will be Anita Wood Brewer, Jonnita Brewer Barrett, and Rex and Elisabeth Mansfield who will do a special Q&A for attendees during the event and sign autographs. Rex Mansfield was inducted into the Army on the same day as Elvis in March 1958 and went through basic training with him in Texas, traveled with him to Germany and became close friends for the next 18 months. Elisabeth Stefaniak was a German girl who was hired to answer Elvis' fan mail. Elisabeth became romantically involved with Elvis, but was torn between her love for Elvis and her love for Rex. Elizabeth and Rex eventually married in 1960. MONDAY, JANUARY 7 Graceland Stable Tours 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Graceland The Graceland Stable is open on this special day for tours by fans who can see various artifacts including saddles used by Elvis and his entourage, personal western wear worn by Elvis, and home movie footage of Elvis on horseback at Graceland. Graceland is currently the home to four horses - Max, Tucker, Bandit, and Candy. TUESDAY, JANUARY 8 Elvis Presley Day Ceremony 9:30 a.m. Graceland’ A special ceremony with Graceland/EPE officials, a birthday cake cutting and a proclamation of Elvis Presley Day by Memphis and Shelby County officials. Complimentary birthday cake and coffee served at the Chrome Grille restaurant across the street from the mansion following the ceremony. The public can also view the proclamation event on elvis.com (http://www.elvis.com/ Opening of "Elvis' Hawaii: Movies, Concerts and More!” Exhibit Immediately following the ceremony, media is invited to cover the official opening of the new "Elvis' Hawaii: Movies, Concerts and More!” exhibit. In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the landmark “Aloha From Hawaii” concert, the new exhibit explores Elvis’ love of the Islands and the time he spent there.
