By: Edelman PR “We hope this contribution will make this holiday season brighter for our local Bay Area Boys & Girls Club partner,” said Mark Bronez, president of Hanwha SolarOne North America. “Donating this solar system is an investment to educate and energize San Francisco youth about environmental responsibility.” The “How Far Did It Fly” program is part of green initiative at Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco to promote environmental sustainability. The solar installation will include a flat-panel display inside the Columbia Park Clubhouse to show real-time performance of the solar system to patrons. The 34kW Hanwha Solar system is projected to reduce the facility’s electricity bill by 40-50 percent annually, savings that Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco plans to invest in its Youth Workforce Development programs and to help send Club kids to Camp Mendocino, Boys & Girls Clubs’ beautiful summer camp in the redwoods of Mendocino County. “Our partnership with Hanwha Solar offers a great opportunity to educate Club members about sustainability while making the Columbia Park Clubhouse greener and reducing the facility’s utility bills,” said Rob Connolly, President of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco. “We hope to expand the partnership in the future as we continue exploring energy-saving initiatives across the organization.” As the official solar partner of the San Francisco Giants, Hanwha Solar is working with the team to build on its legacy of environmental responsibility through the “I SUN SF” green initiative campaign. In addition to the “How Far Did It Fly” program and the $50,000 donation to Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, the campaign includes a solar PV installation at AT&T Park, a Hanwha Solar-branded, sun-shaped LED sign above left field which displays how far a home run ball travels and sponsorship of the Giants’ in-game recycling Green Team, which enters the stands of AT&T Park at the end of the seventh inning to collect recyclables and to remind fans to recycle at home.
